DPM CHAIRMAN VLAD PLAHOTNIUC HELD MEETINGS WITH AMERICAN SENATORS AND CONGRESSPERSONS

22 may, 2017

The Chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova and the executive coordinator of the Moldovan ruling coalition Vlad Plahotniuc met in Washington DC with Republican senators and congresspersons Roger Wicker, Chris Smith, Pete Olson and Ted Poe, as well as with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Bridget A. Brink, the DP press service said to Infotag.

According to it, Plahotniuc told them about Moldova’s achievements on the reform path, about the continuing reform of the country’s political system, about the change of Moldova’s electoral system and a reform of the government.

“Moldova is working at a rapid pace to get modernized and get closer to Western partners. Our partnership with the United States helps Moldova citizens considerably”, said Vlad Plahotniuc, stressing that Moldova will further need the American assistance for its development and democratization, and this assistance is highly valued in Chisinau.

According to the DP press release, the American officials appreciated the Moldovan authorities’ reform realization efforts and expressed confidence that the United States must be not only an observer but also a world leader in support of countries like Moldova.

“Both parties confirmed the significance of developing their political dialog and agreed to invigorate the regular holding of top-level meetings”, said the DP press release.

The Moldovan Democratic Party did not provide any further details of Plahotniuc’s visit to the United States that lasted several days. However, the omg.md portal wrote that Plahotniuc’s “visit to Washington” was actually and largely a voyage to Miami, which the DP press release did not mention.

“According to the Flightradar24 flight tracing server, the VIP-class Boeing Business Jet, chartered by Plahotniuc, stayed in Washington slightly more than 24 hours, after which it flew to Miami and was remaining there for nearly two days until flying to Chisinau. The DP press release did not explain the purpose of visiting Miami by Plahotniuc”, wrote the portal.

The Moldovan mass media wrote last week that the hiring of the VIP plane for the flight to America cost nearly a million US dollars. In that voyage, the coordinator was accompanied by the Moldovan Deputy Premier, Minister of Economy Octavian Calmic, Deputy Speaker of parliament Vladimir Vitiuc and other officials.
