THREE LIBERAL MINISTERS AND THEIR DEPUTIES TENDER RESIGNATION

29 may, 2017

Three Members of the Moldovan Government, who represented the Liberal Party, applied officially for their resignation on Monday afternoon, Minister of Environment Protection Valeriu Munteanu, who is an LP Deputy Chairman, wrote on his Facebook page.

“The results of my activities in the Ministry of Environment Protection will be drawn up at a news conference that will be convened after our resignations are accepted and an official decision on them is taken. Poachers and their relatives, don't open champagne, the struggle is continuing”, wrote Munteanu.

According to him, resignations were tendered also by his two Deputies – Igor Talmazan and Victor Morgoci.

The State Chancellery Office said to Infotag that resignations were tendered also by Deputy Prime Minister for social issues Gheorghe Brega as well as by Minister of Education, Deputy Chairperson of the Liberal Party Corina Fusu together with her Deputy Ministers Cristina Boaghi and Elena Cernei.

Last Friday night, the Liberal Party stated its quitting the ruling coalition. LP leader Mihai Ghimpu confirmed that the decision was directly related with the detention of Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, who is the First Deputy Chairperson of the Liberal Party and the nephew of party leader Mihai Ghimpu.

The governing Democratic Party stated that the governing coalition will remain fully functional after this walkout, and the Government has full political support for implementing reforms and the approved program of country governance.

Lately, the Liberals lost their two men in the Government: Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru was dismissed on the insistence of the nation’s Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Igor Dodon last December, and Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Iurie Chirinciuc was dismissed last April after his arrest on charges of corruption.

With an account of the said three resignations, the number of vacations in the Government has reached seven. Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in parliament last Friday that he would not be proposing to the President to appoint new ministers because a reform of the Government will begin very soon. According to it, the number of ministries will be reduced to 9 from the current 16.
