IGOR DODON REGARDS TRAIAN BASESCU AS ONE OF RIDICULOUS-MOST UNIONISTS

27 june, 2017

“Ex-President of Romania Traian Basescu is one of the most radical and most ridiculous advocates of unionism [unionists are adherents to the idea of Unire – Moldova’s unification with Romania]. However, he is not alone. There are quite many such people”, believes Moldovan President Igor Dodon.

He wrote on his Facebook page that Basescu’s statements and actions prove that a considerable part of the political class in Bucharest desire to liquidate the statehood of the Republic of Moldova as such.

“The propaganda campaign “Basarabia – pamant Romanisc!” [Bessarabia is the Romanian land!] was launched during the Basescu presidential office. He openly supported and is continuing to support extremist anti-state organizations in Moldova. His propaganda has inflicted a serious damage to the Chisinau-Tiraspol relationship. This is the unionists’ chief objective – to prevent reintegration of the Republic of Moldova because it is impossible to bring a re-united Moldova into Romania and because in the conditions of a re-united Moldova NATO troops will never reach the Dniester River”, believes the Moldovan President.

“That’s precisely why I stand for a legislative prohibition of the unionism and for bringing to responsibility the organizers of campaigns for liquidation of Moldova because in each country that respects itself there are criminal punishments for such actions”, wrote the head of state.

“In this whole story with Basescu, there is a positive moment as well. The thing is, the Romanian ex-president usually buries long-term political projects. He has failed as a politician in Romania, where a criminal lawsuit has been started against him. In Chisinau, he sustained a resounding defeat with the Liberal Party. And now he will suffer a no less shameful failure with the present-day unionists led by Anna Gutu and ex-minister of defense Anatol Salaru”, wrote Igor Dodon.

He reaffirmed his stance: people like Traian Basescu do not deserve having the Moldova citizenship. And according to the Moldovan legislation, foreigners may not be members of political parties registered in the Republic of Moldova.

“It is not known what Basescu wants more: to go in for politics in Moldova or to avoid criminal responsibility in Romania, where he is facing really big problems related to corruption and abuse of power”, wrote Igor Dodon.

He called on the Romanian law enforcement to help Traian Basescu “get unified with prison” the sooner the better.
