PRESIDENT DODON DISCHARGES TWO MINISTERS WHOSE POSITIONS WERE REDUCED WITHIN GOVERNMENT REFORM

25 july, 2017

Moldovan President Igor Dodon has signed decrees to dismissing two ministers, whose positions were reduced as a result of the government reform: Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan and Minister of Youth and Sports Victor Zubcu.

“I have repeatedly stated my support for reducing the governmental administrative apparatus and the number of ministries. I stand for ministries’ qualitative efficiency, not for their quantity. And I stand for giving ministerial posts exclusively to professionals”, Igor Dodon wrote on his Facebook page Tuesday.

Last week, the Parliament of Moldova approved a new structure of the Government formed according to the new Law on the Reform of Government adopted in early July. The reform stipulates reduction of the number of ministries to nine from the previous 16. The President had to discharge only 2 ministers because 4 ministerial posts have been remaining vacant for several months now namely two ministers were transferred to other posts and the other two are now facing corruption charges. In the result of the government reform and merger of ministries, only one position is remaining vacant – of defense minister.

Presenting in the Parliament the new structure of the government, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that the current lineup of the government will remain on their posts for the transition period of reform implementation. He said that for the time being, there will hardly be new ministers because President Dodon is blockading the approval of the candidacies proposed by the prime minister.
