PRESIDENT THREATENS RULING COALITION WITH MASSIVE PROTEST ACTIONS

14 august, 2017

President Igor Dodon threatened the ruling coalition with massive protest actions. He said about this at the Monday’s briefing.

“I want to say that if Moldovan Government and the parliament majority, controlled by certain forces from outside the country, will try to intervene in regional conflicts or will try to destabilize the situation in the country, I, as president, together with country citizens will be forced to wipe away these authorities by all available means”, Dodon said.

Among possible actions he named the calling of the Great Popular Assembly, as well as massive non-stop protest actions, led by the President.

“We will never allow Moldova to be involved in military regional adventures. We are determined to ensure peace and stability by all means. I am sure that Chisinau cannot and will not attack Transnistria. I want to stress this, we are not going to attack anyone and nobody wants to attack Moldova. But if some of authorities’ representatives want to use such a variant to cover other shortcomings in the internal policy, we will have no choice. I am sure Moldovans will support us. We do not want war and we do not want to play someone’s political and geopolitical games. Leave us alone! We are a small neutral country, we want peace”, Dodon stated.

He specifically stressed that currently there is no threat for situation destabilization or unleashing a new conflict in Transnistria.

“As President and Supreme Commander of the Moldovan Armed Forces, I will not allow any actions that would lead to destabilization of the situation. I have enough powers to block any actions that may potentially lead to destabilization.”

He said that on Monday he visited national Army’s military polygon in Bulboaca to get acquainted with the situation on the spot.

“No actions that may destabilize the situation are being conducted there. In the coming days I will conduct inspection of all military units of Moldova, to make sure that everything is ok everywhere. Also, before the end of August I plan to call the Supreme Security Council meeting in order to take conclusions and take measures if necessary”, Dodon said.
