COMMUNIST DEPUTIES DECLINE POST OF CHAIRMAN IN NEW COMMITTEE

16 august, 2017

MPs of the Moldovan Communist Party (MCP) will refuse taking the post of Chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee for Public Administration, maintain sources in the Party.

The Communist faction regards as lawlessness the decisions on changing the legislature’s structure and shake-ups in its management. This was done without preliminary discussion, in the last day of plenary meeting of the spring-summer session – on July 21, when oppositional factions of the Communist Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Liberal Party boycotted the Parliament meeting, while decisions were taken by the ruling coalition and the Party of Socialists.

They decided to divide the parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Administration, Regional Development, Environment Protection and Climate Change into two committees. As a result, the Committee for Environment Protection and Climate Change was headed by Socialist Radu Mudreac, which before was dismissed from function of Chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture and Food Industry.

It is worth noticing that the new structure of the Parliament is only partially reflected on its website. It includes the Committee for Public Administration, which remains without chairman so far due to Communists’ decline.

Member of the Democratic Party faction Ion Balan was appointed Chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture and Food Industry. Sources from the Parliament say that Balan, who before becoming MP, was doing business in the field of agriculture, insisted on occupying this post. This was promised to him after he left the LDPM faction.

On the same day, the Parliament released from function Chairwoman of the parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Protection, Healthcare and Family, MCP deputy Oxana Domenti. Instead of her, DP deputy Valentina Buliga was appointed, which before had held the post of Chairwoman of the parliamentary Standing Committee for Foreign Policy and European Integration. According to the decision, published on the Parliament’s website, from now on, the external policy and European integration in the Parliament will be conducted by former Communist MP Violeta Ivanov, who switched to the Democratic Party.

“We were proposed to delegate a deputy who would head the Committee for Public Administration [headed by Violetta Ivanov before]. We declined this proposal, as we are revolted by actions of Democrats and Socialists, who dismissed Oxana Domenti from the post of Committee Chairwoman”, said Infotag interviewees.

Representatives of MCP said that there is only one provisional representative of opposition in the Parliament, who is heading a parliamentary Committee – Socialist Radu Mudreac. The rest of posts in the Parliament, including Speaker and Deputy Speakers are held by representatives of the ruling coalition.

After Liberal Democrat MP Lilia Palihovici abdicated her mandate, Speaker of the Parliament Andrian Candu stated that the place of Deputy Speaker will be taken by a woman – representative of opposition in order to observe the representation of opposition and principles of gender equality. Soon after that, the post of Deputy Speaker was occupied by leader of the European People's Party of Moldova Iurie Leanca, whose group of 10 former Liberal Democrats joined the ruling coalition.
