PROTESTERS DEMAND TO CLOSE EUROPEAN DOORS FOR PLAHOTNIUC AND DODON

18 september, 2017

Participants of the Sunday’s protest action in Chisinau demanded to prohibit leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc and President Igor Dodon entrance to European Union countries and to arrest them.

Protesters’ resolution also includes the demand to cancel the anti-democratic decision of the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists on transiting to mixed election system and return to the conducting of parliamentary elections on the basis of proportionate system.

Rally participants demanded in the adopted document to de-monopolize the mass media, to depoliticize the Moldova-1 public television and to provide air-time to representatives of opposition parties, which really have people’s support.

The adopted resolution also points at the need to publish the second report of the Kroll company about the results of investigating the stealing of a billion of euros from the country’s banking system, repayment of money, punishing the guilty and canceling of the law that implies that the money will be repaid at the expense of citizens.

“We came to protect the democracy, which is in danger. We came to defend our right to participate in democratic elections, as this right was violated by the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists, which changed the legislation to usurp the power. The party, which got 15% votes at elections, became the ruling party. This means power usurping. Vlad Plahotniuc usurped and shared the power with Igor Dodon. They conducted bargaining to divide power after elections as well. Their power means poverty, migration, hopelessness for us – the Moldovan people”, stated Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) leader Maia Sandu.

She reminded to President Igor Dodon that during the presidential election campaign Dodon promised to fight against oligarchs, but after victory at elections he colluded with the oligarch and is doing what Plahotniuc orders him.

The protest lasted slightly more than an hour. Organizers said that the rally was so short, because it was 30-degree heat in Chisinau on Sunday.

According to experts, the protest gathered 3-5 thousand people. Deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate Gheorghe Cavcaliuc said to journalists that around 1.5 thousand people came to protest before the Parliament.
