MAIA SANDU SENDS CHALLENGE TO VLAD PLAHOTNIUC

22 september, 2017

Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Chairperson Maia Sandu has challenged the Democratic Party Chairman, 'executive coordinator' of the Moldovan ruling coalition Vlad Plahotniuc to a live television debate.

Sandu stated on the ProTV Channel on Thursday night that she is ready to discuss with him the current situation in Moldova – at any television channel.

“Our rulers must come out of their helicopters and step down to the earth to see at last how their rank and file compatriots actually live. But Plahotniuc will never agree to come because he is scared”, maintained the former Moldovan education minister.

Commenting on the invitation to an open dialog, sent recently to her by Moldovan Parliament Chairman Andrian Candu, Maia Sandu remarked that she is not particularly interested to talk with Candu because he is merely an obedient mouthpiece of his master – Vlad Plahotniuc, so she would like to talk with number one personality, and not with his surrounding.

Sandu confirmed her filing with the Prosecutor General’s Office an application that contained a demand to bring Plahotniuc to criminal responsibility for usurping power in the country. She confirmed: “My accusations were based only on the conclusions made by my Party, and not on real proofs that must be found by competent authorities”.

Concerning the answer the Prosecutor General’s Office sent in response to Maia Sandu’s previous application to sue President Igor Dodon in court for high treason, which the Office declined, Sandu stated that this fact is an extra evidence that the Office fully depends on the orders given to it by “one concrete almighty person”.

Maia Sandu characterized the behavior of police during the actions of protest in Chisinau on September 17 as “absolutely unprincipled ones… Moldovan state institutions, including the Ministry of the Interior, are maintained at citizens’ expense but they act overtly against the citizens”.

Sandu is convinced that the mixed electoral system is advantageous for the ruling regime because this system makes it easier to bribe voters and falsify election results. She believes the law on switching over to the mixed system should be annulled.

“Though our authorities constantly trumpet about their adherence to a pro-European course, they actually use the Kremlin methodology, and the mixed electoral system is a bright example of this. This system is creating a danger that Moldova may eventually develop into an analog of a Putin-type Russia, where all questions in the state will be solved by one person”, believes the PAS leader.
