PRESIDENT DODON BELIEVES RULING COALITION IS TRYING TO PROVOKE HIM TO CANCEL PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION

22 september, 2017

The ruling coalition in Moldova is trying to destabilize situation in Moldova to cancel the ordinary parliamentary election due in late 2018, President Igor Dodon stated in a live program on the AccentTV channel on Thursday night.

“An ideal method to achieve destabilization is to provoke the president. I think they are provoking us into bringing masses of people into streets. Blood is needed not by us [Socialists] because according to all opinion polls we will win the election. Blood is needed by them [incumbent authorities] – for destabilization and for distracting the public attention from the government’s complete inability to solve vital problems. They do not need a parliamentary election in 2018 because they will have no more possibility to purchase so many deputies. That’s why the best possible scenario for them is to provoke me into bringing people out into streets. 1-2 victims – and here you are! They declare the state of emergency and, according to the Constitution, no election may be held in such conditions”, said Igor Dodon.

In this connection, the head of state called on citizens to remain calm and not to yield to provocations. In his words, a massive coming out into streets is possible only in two cases – if the authorities try to dismiss the president or if they try to provoke a new war on the Dniester.

“Those who come to power through blood usually leave the scene through blood as well. I have given the current power a chance to leave without blood or revolutions. I have given the Democratic Party such chance because if only they keep rocking the boat, citizens will come out, and everything will be finished. But I don't wish to bring the people out only for a pleasant communication. I will call compatriots to Chisinau only for the last battle”, stated Igor Dodon.

He confirmed that this upcoming Sunday, the president and the Party of Socialists supporting him will hold their actions of protest projected long in advance – only not in Chisinau but in Balti, Anenii Noi and Cahul.
