PRESIDENT SHOULD MEDIATE BETWEEN POWER AND CIVIL SOCIETY – DUMITRU DIACOV

25 september, 2017

The energy of young President Igor Dodon [42] should be aimed at fulfilling a mediating mission between the power and the civil society, between the political majority and minority, maintains Honorable Chairman of the Democratic Party MP Dumitru Diacov.

He said in an interview with Radio Free Europe that the head of state, alas, has chosen another way, refusing to promulgate the Parliament-approved laws, which is but a violation of the Constitution.

“The president may indeed say that he disagrees with some decisions of the legislative forum, but nevertheless he must observe the Constitution. The president has no right to impede the development of the State, and it is indeed strange that Dodon is refusing to approve Eugen Sturza for the defense minister’s post. For Moldova to move forward, all its state agencies must work smoothly, including the Ministry of Defense”, said Dumitru Diacov.

The Democrat hopes that the defense minister appointment question will be resolved shortly “by using peaceful diplomatic means”.

Dumitru Diacov voiced hope for “the rationalism of Igor Dodon, who must take account of the opinions of the Constitutional Court and the parliamentary majority”.
