DEMOCRATS MAINTAIN THEIR BOSS IS NOT AT ALL LONGING FOR PRIME MINISTERIAL POST

18 octomber, 2017

The ruling Democratic Party of Moldova has dispelled rumors that their leader Vlad Plahotniuc is allegedly seeking to become prime minister.

The DP leadership wrote in the party’s official Statement on Wednesday that the Government of Premier Pavel Filip will be performing its duties until the expiry of their mandate, and whatever possibility of their replacement is not even being considered.

“Vlad Plahotniuc is reaffirming for a 4th time since the beginning of this year that the incumbent Government will remain, like it remained after the appearance of such untrue media stories before. Moreover, the DP leadership is contented with the policy waged by Premier Pavel Filip and will be further backing it actively to ensure the Cabinet’s successful work in the future as well. The stories about a possible dismissal of the incumbent Head of the Government are false. They are disseminated by certain malicious personalities to manipulate the public opinion”, said the DP Statement.

The Democrats believe it is necessary to draw the public attention to such media fakes and to inform about them inter alia the foreign partners, on whose money such misinformation is cast on some TV channels.

As was already reported by Infotag, on Tuesday the Constitutional Court ruled that in cases when the President refuses two times to sign presidential decrees or promulgate laws, then by the Court’s decision these presidential duties may be performed by Parliament Speaker. Upon hearing the Court decision, Liberal Party Chairman Mihai Ghimpu wrote on his Facebook page that the CC decision will help Democrat Vlad Plahotniuc become prime minister.

“The Constitutional Court’s decision has freed President Igor Dodon from the necessity to make explanations and has become his shield against the Kremlin and against his own electorate because a Decree on nominating a candidate for prime minister will now be signed by Speaker Andrian Candu [the First Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party]”, wrote Mihai Ghimpu.

This opinion is shared by a number of political experts, who are saying that the Constitutional Court has spared Igor Dodon of extra responsibility.
