DEMOCRATS WIN LOCAL ELECTIONS IN 8-OF-10 POPULATED AREAS

20 november, 2017

Democratic Party representatives won in the first round of the local elections of mayors in 8-of-10 populated areas held last Sunday, the Central Election Commission reported on Monday.

According to it, Anatol Todorov won in the village of Plopi (Cantemir Raion) and Ion Bubuioc – in Lapusna (Hincesti Raion). In both localities, the Democrats were the only candidates.

In 6 other localities, Democrats won in the first round of voting, having outstripped their rivals from the Party of Socialists or the independent. The winners polled 52% to 89% ballots.

In two more populated areas, the voting did not reveal winners, so the struggle will be continued in a second round to be held in two weeks. The elections were held due to the early retirements of mayors in the localities concerned in virtue of various reasons.
