PREMIER FILIP STATES MOLDOVA IS NOT GIVING UP RUSSIAN TROOP WITHDRAWAL IDEA

22 november, 2017

Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated at a government meeting on Tuesday that Moldova is not giving up its demand to pull out the Russian troops from Transnistria.

Filip refuted media reports that Moldova allegedly asked not to include this question into the Agenda of the United Nations General Assembly.

"This information is absolutely devoid of logic because it is impossible to exclude a question from where it has never been included", stated the Premier and asked the media to correct this mistake and to stop misleading the public.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration has also dispelled the media information that Chisinau had allegedly recalled its inquiry on inclusion. In its press release, the Ministry reaffirmed its readiness to keep demanding the Russian troop withdrawal in conformity with the Agreement on the Principles of a Peaceful Settlement of the Armed conflict in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova concluded on July 21, 1992, and with the OSCE decisions, in particular the OSCE Istanbul Summit of 1999.

The Ministry stressed that the consideration of this question was put off so that to use the extra time for enlisting the support of more countries.

The Ministry expressed regret that some mass media published unverified and erroneous information that the Moldovan authorities are allegedly demanding to pull out Russian peacekeeping forces from Transnistria, whereas the demand pertains only to the Operative Group of Russian Troops (OGRV).
