PARLIAMENTARY MAJORITY REFUSES TO HEAR EXPLANATIONS WHY SOME RUSSIAN VISITORS ARE DENIED ENTRY TO MOLDOVA

01 december, 2017

On Friday, the pro-European parliamentary majority refused to hold the hearings of relevant Moldovan agencies concerning why a constantly growing number of visitors from Russia are not permitted to enter the republic. The demand to hear the Information and Security Service (ISS), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Ministry of the Interior came from the parliamentary Socialist faction.

MP Vladimir Turcan of the faction said the list of such visitors – Russian officials, journalists, scientists etc. – is being numbered in tens of persons.

“Such uncivilized and unexplained bans only spoil the international image of Moldova, which claims it strives for democracy, the rule of law and for freedom of speech. Such actions are bringing us nothing except harm to the relationship with our strategic partner – Russia”, said the Socialist.

Parliament Chairman Andrian Candu showed surprise about the announced number of unwanted Russian visitors and asked to supply him with a precise list of “those tens of persons”.

Liberal MP Lilian Carp offered a fairly categorical judgment: “Everybody knows what Russian officials do in Donbass [eastern Ukrainian region comprising the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk republics] – they support separatism there. And in Moldova, they go to Condrita [where the countryside presidential residence is situated] to slaughter pigs [to enjoy roast pork]”.

“So, those were good decisions. May be even the best ones ever taken by the state agencies concerned”, stated the Liberal.

The Socialists also demanded to hear responsible officials from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences in connection with the ex-President of Romania Traian Basescu’s “touring the republic and waging his political propaganda in Moldovan educational institutions in favor of Moldova’s unification with Romania”. However, the parliamentary majority rejected that demand as well.

Socialist MP Vlad Batrincea stated: “The Parliament must clear out who opened the school doors to this foreign political propaganda”.

“Any political propaganda and agitation in Moldovan educational institutions are prohibited by the law. But Mr. Basescu feels free to visit our universities and schools in lesson hours and to deliver lectures. This crying fact has remained without whatever reaction from behalf of our authorities or the education ministry”, stated Vlad Batrincea.

And ex-President of Moldova MP Vladimir Voronin, Chairman of the Communist Party, is convinced that there is no use attaching so much attention to Basescu and to his systematic voyages to Moldova “because he has other interests”.

“He doesn’t care about Moldovans or even about Romania’s interests. Simply, he is projecting to try his luck once again at the next presidential election in Romania, and is travelling extensively everywhere. And in Moldova, he is fooling local citizens with Romanian passports in pockets in the hope that they will vote for him at the forthcoming elections”, said the ex-President of Moldova.
