UKRAINIAN DEPUTY SLASHES KREMLIN'S STATEMENTS ABOUT ITS SUPPORT OF MOLDOVA'S INTEGRITY

18 january, 2018

Any statements by the Kremlin about its support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova are but blatant lies, maintains MP Irina Friz of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc party, the Chairperson of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada [parliament] Subcommittee on State Information Systems Security of the Rada Standing Committee on National Security and Defense.

She wrote in the social networks that Russia uses the peace treaty on settling the 1992 armed conflict in Transnistria as a means for further frosting of the conflict.

"Protracted conflicts permit the Kremlin to influence on pro-European FSU states. Moscow hopes that the puppet leaderships of the quasi-state self-proclaimed formations will become an obstacle to the European course of the countries they belong, and will make a buffer zone of them. The encouraging of separatism is a dangerous trend that threatens to whole Europe", wrote the Ukrainian politician.

In her words, Russia uses the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (PMR) for by-passing the European Union sanctions.

"Tiraspol has received an access to the zone of free trade with the European Union in fact as an integral part of Moldova. But the PMR leadership keeps discussing its plans of integration with the Russian Federation or of the development of an independent state of Transnistria. Russia-made goods are delivered to the PMR, where they acquire the 'Transnistrian origin', after which they are exported to the European Union", wrote Irina Friz.

She is convinced that the continuation of 'the policy of the carrot' for Tiraspol is erroneous if applied without using 'the stick', and that the approach to resolving the Transnistrian problem has to be revised on the international level.

"While Transnistria gives Russia the possibility of an access to the EU market, Tiraspol would not make even a single step towards demilitarization and towards the withdrawal of the Russian occupational contingent. Various formats of international peacekeeping forces with a United Nations mandate were repeatedly proposed to Tiraspol but were rejected by the Transnistrian puppet leadership and by the Kremlin", wrote the deputy.
