PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE APPROVES 4 AMBASSADORIAL CANDIDACIES

19 january, 2018

The parliamentary Standing Committee for Foreign Policy and European Integration has today approved the candidacies of Moldova's 4 ambassadors to work in foreign countries. The candidacies were presented at the Committee working sitting by Mihai Capatina, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

He said the Ministry had proposed to appoint as Ambassador to Belgium the former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lilian Darii; to Lithuania - Sergiu Mihov; to the Netherlands - Tatiana Parvu. All the three are career diplomats employed in the Ministry for many years, and they have held various posts in Moldovan diplomatic mission abroad.

As for the 4th Ambassador to go to the People's Republic of China, the Ministry has proposed the candidacy of Denis Jelimalai, a former Director of the Moldovan Investment and Export Promotion Organization (MIEPO). Also, Mr. Jelimalai worked as Economic Adviser at the Moldovan Embassy to Romania. Standing Committee Chairperson Violeta Ivanov stated that the proposed candidates are genuine professionals having a vast experience of practical diplomatic service, "and they can do much for the development of the Republic of Moldova's relations with the said countries".

As was already reported by Infotag, for various reasons the Moldovan Government decided to recall Ambassadors from the said countries. Besides them, there are several more foreign capitals where the positions of Moldovan ambassadors are remaining vacant e.g. in Washington DC, London and some other. Both for recalling and for appointing ambassadors, the ruling coalition needs to reach a compromise with President Igor Dodon, who signs corresponding decrees. Last April, for instance, the "parties" managed to replace several ambassadors. For the sake of having those decrees signed by the head of state, the Government agreed to send to Russia and Belarus not diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration but President Dodon's reliable representatives.
