SOCIALISTS ARE CONFIDENT ABOUT THEIR MAYORAL ELECTION VICTORY

The Party of Socialists (PSRM) stands ready for a snap mayoral election in Chisinau, and a PSRM representative shall win the election, Ion Ceban, Chairman of the Socialist faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council, stated over a local private television channel on Monday night.

Ceban assured that the Party will do its utmost to make the capital city have an efficient mayor from the Left political flank.

"The decision to resign, taken by Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, was indeed a correct step, but too belated", remarked the Socialist.

In his words, the PSRM is continuing to back the idea of holding a snap parliamentary election, e.g. simultaneously with voting in Chisinau [presumably on May 20]: "If such a possibility really appears, the Socialists will use it. If not, we will be working to create conditions for it".

As was already reported by Infotag, Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca [the First Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Party] stated his resignation from the mayoral post on February 16. However, his mandate will cease working only upon an official decision of the Central Election Commission. He presumes the snap election in Chisinau may be organized simultaneously with analogous election in the country's second-largest city of Balti - on May 20.
