DEMOCRATS REGISTER IN PARLIAMENT DRAFT ON ALLOCATING LAND FOR BUILDING CONCERT ARENA

16 march, 2018

A group of deputies headed by Speaker of the Parliament Andrian Candu registered in the legislature on Thursday a draft law, which implies the transferring of 69 hectares of agricultural lands in Chisinau suburban community Stauceni for building a multifunctional cultural-sport arena.

According to the parliament, Candu said that over the years of independence, all the existing concert halls, gyms and stadiums were being destroyed or reoriented for other purposes.

"And now, 26 years later, we will build a multifunctional arena for Moldova. This draft law, which I hope will be supported by all the deputies, is the first step towards making the arena a reality", he said.

According to the preliminary feasibility study, developed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences, the arena will have 3-5 thousand seats, 800-1200 parking lots and may be used for various sport events, conferences, exhibitions or concerts. Besides, the arena will have an Olympic basin, tennis lawns, SPA and fitness rooms.

At the first sitting of the working group on building the object on Wednesday it was said that around 10 ha of land will be necessary for the building. The implementation of the project will cost 30-50 million euros, including the state share of 100 million lei (4.8 million euros), which have already been provided in the 2018 state budget. The initiative on building a Chisinau-Arena came from DP Chairman Vlad Plahotniuc this week.
