PRESIDENT DODON CONGRATULATES VLADIMIR PUTIN UPON HIS RE-ELECTION PRESIDENT OF RUSSIA

19 march, 2018

Moldovan President Igor Dodon has congratulated his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin on his impressive electoral victory and re-election as President of the Russian Federation.

Upon sending a telegram of congratulation to Moscow, Igor Dodon wrote on his Facebook page on Monday: “As President of the independent Republic of Moldova, I want to say with full responsibility: a strong Russia is needed not only to Russians. Presently, the Putin-led Russian Federation has become a symbol of hope for all the peoples standing for stability in all regions of the world, for a sovereign domestic and foreign policy, and for traditional values”.

In his words, “Vladimir Putin has shown himself as a big friend of Moldova’s. With his direct participation and support, extremely important accords have been achieved between our two countries on Russian market opening for Moldovan goods, on migration amnesty for tens of thousand labor migrants from Moldova working in Russia”.

“Vladimir Putin is maintaining lead and I am sure will continue heading the ratings of most popular foreign leaders in all of the opinion polls conducted in Moldova. I know that Putin was voted for by an overwhelming majority of Russian citizens living in Moldova. Today I want to reaffirm that the Republic of Moldova is strongly interested to further deepen and broaden the all-embracing strategic partnership with Russia based on the centuries-long historic good friendly relations between our countries and peoples. There is still so much we need to do jointly with Russia and its President”, wrote Igor Dodon.

At the presidential election held in Russia on March 18, incumbent President Vladimir Putin won nearly 77% votes, and has been elected for another 6-year term of office.

Congratulations have been sent to Putin also by Irina Vlah, Bashkan [governor] of the southern Moldovan autonomous region of Gagauzia, and by Transnistria president Vadim Krasnoselsky.

In Moldova, including in its Transnistrian region, nearly 80 thousand citizens of Russia went to the polls last Sunday – about 20 thousand more than at the 2016 Russian parliamentary elections. An absolute majority of the voters yesterday cast their ballots for Vladimir Putin. A total of 27 polling stations were opened on the whole territory of the Republic of Moldova, namely one station each in Chisinau, Balti and Comrat and 24 stations in the Transnistrian region. At the main voting station in downtown Chisinau, a queue of voters about 100 meters long was remaining throughout practically the whole Sunday.
