​SPEAKER CANDU OFF FOR WEEK-LONG VISIT TO USA

On Wednesday, Moldovan Parliament Chairman Andrian Candu flew for a working visit to the United States that will last until April 19, the parliamentary press service has reported.

According to it, Candu will make an address at the session of the United Nations General Assembly. His speech will be about traffic safety and measures being taken in Moldova to reduce traffic accident mortality, about the importance of preventive measures, legislative instruments, standards of infrastructure and education. Previously, these topics were discussed at a special sitting between the Speaker and the representatives of the Moldovan Government, foreign partners and of the civil society.

Andrian Candu will take part in the international conference of the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in New York.

The Moldovan Parliament Chairman has been scheduled to hold meetings with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Ms. Amina Mohammed, with the representatives of the United States Congress, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the IMF, the World Bank, the US Treasury and the U.S. Department of State.

As was already reported by Infotag, Andrian Candu last visited the United States relatively recently. In December 2017, he and incumbent Deputy Prime Minister Iurie Leanca [who was a Deputy Speaker then] accompanied Democratic Party leader Vlad Plahotniuc, the 'executive coordinator' of the ruling coalition in Moldova, in his voyage to Washington DC.
