CANDIDATE FOR CHISINAU MAYOR ION CEBAN RESIGNS AS PRESIDENTIAL PRESS SECRETARY

12 april, 2018

Ion Ceban, the Party of Socialists’ candidate for Chisinau Mayor, has tendered resignation from the post of Presidential Press Secretary, after the Chisinau constituency election council had officially registered him as a candidate for mayor on Wednesday evening.

Ceban wrote in the Facebook on Thursday that he had resigned from the post, had thanked President Dodon for his trust and support, and said that the duties of Presidential Press Secretary would be performed, so far, by Maxim Lebedinschi, Presidential Legal Adviser and the President’s Representative at the Constitutional Court.

Ion Ceban has thus become the 6th registered candidate for Chisinau Mayor. Since the registration moment he is eligible to start his election campaign.

The previous 5 candidates registered by the Council are: Democratia Acasa [DA, Democracy at Home] leader Vasile Costiuc; DA Platform party leader Andrei Nastase (supported by the Party of Action and Solidarity, PAS); Alexandru Rosco of Our Home is Moldova (OHM) party; Regina Apostolova of the Ilan Shor Party; Liberal Party Deputy Chairman Valeriu Munteanu.

Civil society activist Sergiu Tofilat is continuing raising citizens’ signatures [10,000] necessary to get registered as an independent candidate. And activist Maya Laguta announced on Wednesday she had stopped her signature raising. The energetic lady pensioner stated that “the signature condition is just unrealizable” and that the very procedure of candidate registration by means of collecting signatures is but a humiliation.
