MOLDOVA AND UKRAINE BUILDING UP JOINT CONTROL ON TRANSNISTRIAN BORDER SEGMENT

24 may, 2018

Moldova and Ukraine will shortly begin to jointly control two more border-crossing stations on the Transnistrian segment of the Moldova-Ukraine border - at Goianul Nou/Platonovo and at Novosavitskaya/Cuciurgan. The signature of a Protocol to this effect was approved by the Moldovan Government at its working meeting on Wednesday.

At both stations, the joint control will be organized from the territory of Ukraine. Document checking will be organized by the principle of "one stop - one window", which should essentially simplify and speed up all examination procedures for the people, freights and motor vehicles.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip asked the Customs Service and Border Police to ensure - before the expiry of the incumbent Government's mandate - such joint control arrangements at other border-crossing stations, first and foremost those situated on the Transnistrian segment of the Moldova-Ukraine border.

The authorities of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic are standing up categorically against the Chisinau's and Kiev's initiative, regarding their joint control as nothing but a new spiral of the economic blockade of Transnistria.
