SPEAKERS OF MOLDOVA, GEORGIA AND UKRAINE DECLARE CREATION OF PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY

The Chairpersons of the Parliaments of three former Soviet republics of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine have signed a statement on their creating a tripartite Parliamentary Assembly. The document signature ceremony took place last Saturday at the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Conference "Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova: Strengthening of the Inter-Parliamentary Regional Component, of Safe Cooperation and Development of Interaction with EU and NATO" held in Kiev (Ukraine).

The Statement reads that the parties confirm their support to the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the three countries within their internationally recognized borders, and want to further develop and strengthen their all-round parliamentary ties.

The document authors underscored the common interest of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine to European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and the common challenges they withstand due to Russia's aggression and occupation of certain parts of their national territories.

The document underlined the importance of coordinated actions for implementation of the Association Agreements concluded with the European Union, including their provisions on a deep and comprehensive free trade and ensuring of the three states' energy security.

The composition, mandate and work principles of the Parliamentary Assembly are determined in its Charter to be adopted at the constituent session to be held in Tbilisi (Republic of Georgia) soon.

Moldovan Parliament Chairman Andrian Candu named the first-priority objective of the tripartite cooperation: "Reunification of the region with Europe".

"We need a structured cooperation with Georgia and Ukraine because we all have same problems, same strivings and the common status of the states associated with the European Union. In such conditions, we can find common solutions and use the best experience", the Moldovan Speaker stated and pointed out also the three country's cooperation with the European Union in the spheres of trade, transport, energy and information technology that generates new possibilities for joining a common market for using EU standards in the region.

In his words, regional cooperation and cooperation in the field of security, along with domestic democratic reform processes, are of key importance for obtaining a European perspective.

"In the European Union, various nations have learnt how to act in concert for the sake of ensuring peace, stability and global prosperity. We need the EU's and USA' support", said the Moldovan Speaker.
