EX-PRESIDENT VLADIMIR VORONIN CRITICIZES ELECTORAL REFORM IN MOLDOVA

21 june, 2018

Ex-President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, Chairman of the parliamentary Communist Party (MCP), has strongly criticized the electoral reform in Moldova, which he is convinced works for the good of the incumbent authorities only.

On Wednesday, Voronin received a delegation from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) and discussed with them inter alia the parliamentary election to be held here at the end of 2018 by using the new, mixed election system.

He stressed that the reform, conceived and railroaded by the ruling regime and its political satellites, gives obvious advantages to candidates from the ruling coalition and opens broad possibilities for using the notorious administrative resource, for bribing voters and for falsifications.

The interlocutors discussed also the socio-political situation in the country, the questions of abusing constitutional judiciary bodies in the interests of the political forces in power, and numerous threats to the Republic of Moldova's statehood.

The parties agreed to maintain regular contacts.
