PARLIAMENT DECLINES PSRM INITIATIVE TO HEAR NBM, PGO AND NACC ON BANK FRAUD

The parliamentary majority refused on Thursday to hear at a plenary sitting the leadership of the National Bank of Moldova, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Anticorruption Prosecution Service and the National Anti-Corruption Center on the second report of the Kroll detective agency concerning the investigation of the theft of the century.

Member of the PSRM, which came with this initiative, Vladimir Turcan said that it has been almost 4 years since a billion was stolen from Moldovan banks, but no0t only the people, but also the MPs do not have complete and concrete information about those guilty of the fraud, the place where the money is and the terms of funds returning.

"There are a lot of versions and rumors in the society. The PGO is developing the strategy on money returning, which is strange. Some say that Kroll is a gang of swindlers", he said.

Liberal Party MP Lilian Carp said that his faction and other factions have many times come to the Parliament with similar initiatives.

"It has been almost two years since when this bank fraud made us notorious all around the world. Everyone found out how almost one-third of national GDP was stolen over a month. Given all the mutual accusations, it seems that thieves are arguing who stole more", he lamented.

According to him, MPs should know details about the process of returning namely the stolen funds, but not those which come from selling the liquidated banks' assets.

"The people has to know who are the thieves in this country, as tomorrow these thieves will come to sit in Parliament", Carp said.

Liberal Democrat MP Iurie Tap reminded that two years ago the Government transformed the state guarantee into a state debt, due to which 600 million lei are annually spent to covering of this debt.

The parliamentary majority did not explain their reluctance to vote for conducting of hearings. The PRSM initiative was supported only by 38 of 82 MPs, present at the sitting.
