NATO URGES RUSSIA TO WITHDRAW TROOPS FROM MOLDOVA

12 july, 2018

Heads of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization member countries adopted a declaration within the NATO Summit in Brussels on Wednesday.

The NATO calls on Russia to withdraw its troops from the territory or the Republic of Moldova and continue to engage constructively in the Transnistria settlement process.

“NATO is committed to supporting the Republic of Moldova in the process of democratic reforms and defense capacity building efforts. We remain committed in our support for the territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and the Republic of Moldova. In this context, we continue to support efforts towards a peaceful settlement of the conflicts in the South Caucasus, as well as in the Republic of Moldova, based upon these principles and the norms of international law, the UN Charter, and the Helsinki Final Act”, the declaration says.

The bloc urges all parties to engage constructively and with reinforced political will in peaceful conflict resolution, within the established negotiation frameworks.

The NATO Summit is held in Brussels on July 11-12 with participation of the heads of the state and prime ministers of 29 NATO member countries.
