PARLIAMENT MAJORITY REFUSED TO HEAR PROSECUTORS AND NACC ON STOLEN BILLION RETURNING

12 july, 2018

The parliamentary majority did not support the Party of Socialists’ proposal to hear the leadership of the Anticorruption Prosecution Service and the National Anti-Corruption Center on the process of investigating and actions on returning the funds, withdrawn from three Moldovan banks.

PSRM deputy Vasile Bolea said that it has been already 4 years since the notorious fraud, but still some details about the already returned funds are still unknown.

“Lately, questions about assets, bought for the stolen funds, appear in press. It is said about war for the property of ex-Premier [Vlad Filat], as well as about buying and selling airplanes by Orhei Mayor [Ilan Shor]. We can see that the prosecution service failed to take all the necessary measures for arresting various assets, thus we want to know how much money was returned”, he explained.

Liberal Democrat MP Iurie Tap said that the LDPM faction supports the Socialists’ initiative and pointed at the necessity to clarify the situation.

“We can see how the Shor Party is opening social shops all across Moldova. The party is openly engaged in economic activity, which de facto means the bribing of electors. The party leader Ilan Shor is one of persons, mentioned in the Kroll report on stealing the billion, but no one shows any reaction to this fact”, Tap said.

Liberal Party MP Roman Botan also supported the proposal, and said that citizens should know the names of the theft “heroes”.

The initiative was also supported by Communists, who proposed to hear the leadership of the National Bank of Moldova, as it is necessary to understand how much money are classified as returned, and how much – as recovered.

39 of 84 MPs, present at the Thursday’s plenary sitting, voted for conducting of hearings. MPs of the Democratic Party and the European People’s Group, who made parliamentary majority, did not explain the reluctance to conduct hearings.
