NEW RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO PRESIDENT OF MOLDOVA

08 august, 2018

The Russian Federation’s new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova, Oleg Vasnetsov, presented his credentials to Moldovan President Igor Dodon on Wednesday.

Dodon wrote on his Facebook page afterwards: “I wished Oleg Vladimirovitch success in his work as the Head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Chisinau. I expressed confidence that by joint effort we will manage to overcome the current complicated period in our bilateral relations. I reaffirmed Moldova’s interestedness in the further development of the full-fledged Moldo-Russian political dialog at all levels”.

The Moldovan President remarked that the bilateral relationship agenda is going to be fairly busy next several months. It includes a visit to Moldova of the Russian Federation’s official delegation to be headed by a Deputy Speaker of the Russian State Duma [parliament] to attend the World Family Congress to be held in Chisinau on September 14-16; an international economic forum in Chisinau on September 20-22; visit to Chisinau of His Holiness Kirill, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church; President Dodon’s official visit to Moscow being projected for October, and other events.

“It is my conviction that all these events and actions will facilitate the further development, consolidation and broadening of our bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership. We have much in common. Our countries are united by a common history (from Stefan cel Mare and Dmitry Cantemir until the current days; our common victory over the Nazi in the Great Patriotic War), by the common present (with over 600 thousand Moldovans permanently staying in Russia; with over 80% Moldovan agri-industrial produce exported to the Russian market); and I am sure Moldova and Russia have a common future”, wrote President Dodon.

In addition, he remarked, the two countries have a common religion. The Orthodox Church of Moldova is an integral part of the Russian Orthodox Church.
