MOLDOVA TO OPEN EMBASSY IN INDIA NEXT YEAR

The Republic of Moldova will open its Embassy in India in 2019, announced Moldova’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi who is paying his first working visit to that country.

According to the foreign ministerial press release, Tudor Ulianovschi held meetings with President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India Anil Haitan, with Indian people of business and with citizens of Moldova living in India. The interlocutors discussed the changes taking place in the republic, the measures being taken by the authorities to reform and modernize the economic, social, education and other spheres.

Ulianovschi said: “I regard it to be an insistent necessity to broaden our country’s diplomatic network on all continents. I would like to increase Moldova’s presence in Asia, so I stand up for opening a Moldovan diplomatic mission in New Delhi, which step will create prerequisites for a fuller engagement of the trade-and-economic potential existing in our bilateral relations, for rendering better-quality and prompter consular services, and for mutually beneficial backing in various international organizations. Such a step should let invigorate the Moldova-India relationship as well as relations with other countries of the region”.

The Minister reiterated also the Moldovan Government’s interest to deepening bilateral trade and economic ties in agriculture, wine industry, IT technologies, pharmaceutics, medicine, textile industry and other.

“Moldova stands for an in-depth defining of possibilities for augmenting bilateral trade, in particular for increasing Moldovan exports to the Indian market given that the bilateral legal frames are favoring this. We are also interested to invite Indian investors to our country, particularly in the textile industry and other spheres where Moldova and India could develop a mutually beneficial cooperation”, stressed Tudor Ulianovschi.

Moldova and India established diplomatic relations on March 12, 1992. According to the Moldovan Ministry of the Interior, in 2017 there were 308 citizens of India registered in Moldova as persons having residence permits, of whom 277 came here for studying.
