MOLDOVA HAS LOST EU'S TRUST - MEP SIEGFRIED MURESAN

14 september, 2018

The European Union cannot trust to the Moldovan authorities, believes Siegfried Muresanu (Romania), a Member of the European Parliament from the European People's Party (EPP). He offered this opinion in the social networks, commenting on the situation developing around the expulsion from Moldova of Orizont lyceum employees - citizens of Turkey.

"The detention of the teachers [of the Turkish language] and their subsequent deportation to Turkey confirms the appropriateness of the EU's decision to suspend its macro-financial assistance for Moldova due to such attitude of its authorities to the main principles of a law-governed state. If the deported Turkish citizens had really applied for a political asylum in Moldova, then we are dealing with not just a crying violation of the Republic of Moldova laws but also of international conventions. The lack of transparency from the Moldovan authorities' behalf is indicating that they acted in defiance of basic procedures. Definitely, the European Union cannot have trust in the Republic of Moldova authorities", believes the Euro-parliamentarian.

As was already reported by Infotag, on September 6 seven citizens of Turkey from among administrators and teachers of the Turkish language, who worked in the Orizont network of Moldo-Turkish lyceums, were expelled from Moldova. That step stirred up a strong public indignation. The European Court for Human Rights has already accepted for examination the claim against the Government of Moldova lodged by the Turkish citizens' lawyers. The Moldovan Information and Security Service (ISS) stated in its press release that the Turks were suspected of having relations with an Islamist group that is allegedly involved in unlawful activities in a number of countries".
