EX-PRESIDENT VORONIN WARNS USA AGAINST SHAMEFUL ACCEPTANCE OF BRIBE FROM OLIGARCHIC MOLDOVAN REGIME

21 september, 2018

Ex-President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, Chairman of the parliamentary Communist Party (MCP), offered an opinion that it would be shameful for the United States to accept from the incumbent Moldovan regime a bribe in the form of a 5-hectare land plot in central Chisinau (where the former National Stadium used to stand until 2008) for the construction of a new American Embassy.

On Thursday, Voronin met with the United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova, James D. Pettit, who is accomplishing his diplomatic mission here. They discussed the current political and socio-economic situation in the republic, perspectives of Transnistrian conflict settlement and other questions.

Touching on the upcoming parliamentary election [February 2019], Voronin said: "It will be neither a democratic nor free one, with the current high level of corruption and in the conditions of a captured state".

In his words, "The main instruments, to be used in the parliamentary campaign by the Democratic Party and its puppets, will be falsifications and bribing of voters".

"The billion dollars stolen from Moldovan banks is one of the sources of bribing voters and election commission members at all levels. The mixed election system was adopted for the sake of preserving the current Mafioso regime in power. The country rulers will be using all means and methods for the sake of their own security and for avoiding responsibility for the crimes they have committed", stated the ex-president confidently.

Vladimir Voronin voiced indignation about the deportation from Moldova of 7 Turkey citizens - teachers of the Turkish language, who worked in Orizont lyceums here.

"In fact, they were forced back home for a reprisal awaiting them there - in exchange for the repair [for Turkey's money] of the Presidential Office in Chisinau, and for construction of a sportive arena here", said the MCP Chairman.

In conclusion of the meeting, Voronin thanked Ambassador James Pettit for his contribution to the development of Moldova-U.S. relations, and wished the American diplomat success in his further activities.
