CONSTITUTIONAL COURT GIVES GREEN LIGHT TO FURTHER ABUSES BY AUTHORITIES - PRESIDENT DODON

25 september, 2018

Moldovan President Igor Dodon has expressed regret over the decision passed by the Constitutional Court, which, "instead of putting an end to the authorities' serious violations of the law, is giving the green light to their continuation".

Dodon wrote on his Facebook page today: "By its decision to suspend from office the President of the Republic of Moldova elected legitimately by citizens, the Constitutional Court has committed a double lawlessness: it has ruined the attempt to stop a grave violation of the legislation and has permitted this violation to be committed by a so-called acting president".

"This incident is again causing serious questions about the professionalism and independence of the CC Judges. The representatives of the authorities and the state institutions they control are simply not realizing the seriousness of their actions or their consequences. But sooner or later they will have to bear responsibility for the violations - with the entire strictness of the law, which they are breaching today so shamelessly for the sake of promoting their selfish party interests", wrote the President.

Igor Dodon believes that the Constitutional Court has ignored the lawful arguments presented by the presidential office in support of the President's refusal to appoint the two DP-proposed ministers.

In his opinion, former Acting Mayor of Chisinau Silvia Radu may not be appointed as Minister of Health because according to the Law on the State Service and on the Status of a Civil Servant, a candidate for a ministerial post must have at least a 5-year-long experience of practical work in the sphere concerned, but Radu has no such experience at all.

As for the other candidate for Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Protection, Nicolae Ciubuc, who is the incumbent Director of the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA), President Dodon refused to approve this candidacy stating that Mr. Ciubuc "fails to meet the criteria of integrity".
