PRESIDENT DODON CALLS HIS SUPPORTERS TO BE READY FOR ACTIONS OF PROTEST

08 octomber, 2018

Moldovan President Igor Dodon has called on his supporters to get mobilized and be ready for mass-scale actions of protest.

Dodon stated on the RTR-Moldova television channel last Friday night: "I am seriously concerned about what is going on in Moldova. When the ruling Democratic Party is unable to control something in the country, they stand up with an initiative to liquidate this 'something'. For instance, they cannot control President Dodon, so they have started saying that the institution of the president - the only state institution in the country having the population's support - should be liquidated. I am seriously concerned about this, and I think that quite hard times are awaiting us".

The President presumes that the Democratic Party will shortly embark on realization of its threats - against the President or against the Party of Socialists or both, so as to de-register the Party from the forthcoming election or to deny registration to certain Socialist candidates in single-member constituencies.

"All this is very serious. I want to call our supporters to be vigilant and to be ready to full mobilization. I ask everybody to be ready to come out into streets on my call", said the President.

Dodon emphasized that he stands up for stability against massive street manifestations, "But if they [Democrats] go against us in such a way, we shall answer. I guess in October-November everything will become clear. We must be ready for everything", stated President Dodon. He stressed that "In such a situation, we cannot speak of a coalition with the Democratic Party after the elections. I don't believe in this. They have declared a Pro-Moldova course. This is good, for the more pro-Moldova parties we have the better. But a pro-Moldova policy has to be conducted in deeds and not only proclaimed in words. So, far, however, the DP's actions are speaking of the opposite".

For an illustration, Igor Dodon mentioned the Parliament's decisions on celebrating Europe Day on May 9, on passing the former National Stadium territory to the American side for new embassy construction, and on privatization of the Air Moldova state company.

"All those decisions, taken by the ruling Democratic Party, would not blend with the pro-Moldova concept because they are aimed against the Moldovan State", believes Igor Dodon.

"I think that if only the Party of Socialists fails to receive a majority in the next parliament to form a government, then a new election will be highly likely", the President said, and once again called on his supporters to get prepared for actions of protest.
