LIBERAL MP DEMANDS INVESTIGATION INTO PAYMENT FOR EDUCATION OF IURIE LEANCA'S SON IN GREAT BRITAIN
Liberal MP Lilian Carp has demanded from the Prosecutor General's Office to carry out an investigation to establish if Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Affairs Iurie Leanca is paying for the higher education of his son in Great Britain in accordance with the law. The parliamentarian's inquiry letter, sent to the Prosecutor General, was published in the social networks on Wednesday.
With reference to media publications, Lilian Carp wrote that Iurie Leanca, when Prime Minister a few years ago and currently as Deputy Premier, used to take governmental decisions favorable for Ilan Shor [a prominent Moldovan businessman and the incumbent Mayor of Orhei town]. Carp referred to the examples of providing 9 billion lei for banks of the Shor Group against the governmental security; the passing of a number of decisions in favor of Banca de Economii [savings bank] when it was headed by Shor; passing the Chisinau International Airport into concession to Ilan Shor's companies; and resolution in Shor's favor of the dispute between his Dufremol [Duty-Free Moldova] Company and Le Bridge Company of France.
"From his part, the main defendant in the bank fraud [worth a billion U.S. dollars] was funding the education of Iurie Leanca's son who studied in an elite school in Great Britain. The payments were effected via the companies that were engaged in the embezzlement of the said one billion U.S. dollars from the Moldovan banking system ", stated Lilian Carp.
On Tuesday, Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Affairs Iurie Leanca refuted media stories that Ilan Shor was allegedly paying for the education of Leanca's son abroad. Leanca stated that the mass media systematically libel against him, accusing him of embezzling the billion.
"Try to recollect who invited the Kroll Company to Moldova? If I had been guilty of anything, do you think I would invite the prominent detective agency here?" asked Iurie Leanca.
However, Iurie Leanca evaded answering about the paying for his son's education in Great Britain. Instead of this, he started slashing Andrei Nastase, Chairman of the political party called Platform "Demnitate si Adevar" [DA, "Dignity and Justice"], stating that Nastase is backed by opposition JurnalTV channel, which has carried out the said investigation of the education payment.
"Who is giving me the integrity and morality lessons? Nastase, who has not been stating whatever incomes for 4 years now, whereas his family resides in one of the most expensive zones in Germany! And his children go to an elite private school, which also costs something, right? I would recommend the lady journalist, who was spying on me near my home at 7 o'clock in the morning, to go and ask Nastase how much taxes he has paid for the remittances he receives from offshore zones", stated Iurie Leanca.
According to the journalist investigation carried out by JurnalTV, Ilan Shor has paid for the education of Leanca's son Liviu Tristan in one of Cambridge schools - in two tranches 25,000 pounds each. The publication said that the company, which effected the payments, is on the list of companies from the Shor Group that were involved in the embezzlement of the billion U.S. dollars from the Moldovan banking system.
