SOCIALISTS ARE GOING TO ORGANIZE MASSIVE PROTESTING ON NOVEMBER 18
The opposition parliamentary Party of Socialists has decided to hold a large-scale action of protest in Chisinau on November 18.
PSRM Secretary for Ideology Ion Ceban, who heads the Socialist faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council [city legislature], said at the press briefing on Tuesday that the action will involve "tens of thousands of citizens who will come out to protest against the 9 years of the incumbent anti-people and anti-State regime".
During the massive rally, the Party of Socialists will present its official Program of actions for the period until the February 24, 2019 parliamentary election, he said.
Commenting on the statements made by some regime representatives concerning a possible abolishing of the institution of the presidency, Ion Ceban stated that the Socialists "stand ready to come out - on the first call - to defend this institution, for the President is the citizenry's only legitimate representative at the State level".
PSRM Executive Secretary Vlad Batrincea said that "many of the parties, who currently call themselves "pro-European opposition", were integral parts of the incumbent criminal regime that has been bullying Moldova nine years. And the Party of Socialists is the only opposition force offering a real alternative to the anti-people regime".
As was already reported by Infotag, on October 12 the Socialist faction left the plenary sitting of the Parliament in protest against the said constitutional amendment idea.
Vlad Batrincea stated before the departure, addressing to the DP-led parliamentary majority: "You are wasting time on a sheer populism. And you certainly realize you are proposing to violate the Constitution by fixing only one possible ideology in the Main Law. You are longing for Europe but are violating European norms. Besides this, nobody is able to say now what the European Union's future will be. We see what is happening in Europe - the Brexit, the coming into power of parties that are obvious Euro-skeptic. Why on earth are you trying to include the European integration vector into our Constitution in such an uncertain situation in Europe?" wondered Batrincea.
The Liberals also subjected the amendment authors to criticism. LP leader Mihai Ghimpu stated, addressing to the Democratic majority: "You violate European principles. European values are alien to you. Instead of re-writing the Constitution, you should better observe European principles in practical deeds and introduce them in Moldova".
In conclusion, he traditionally called the forum to vote for Moldova's unification with Romania "because in such case all our problems will be resolved".
On December 11, 2017 the Constitutional Court gave its positive conclusion of the Democratic majority's intention to amend the Constitution to fix the European integration as the nation's development objective. According to the law, bills on constitutional amendments may be considered by the Parliament not earlier than 6 months and not later than 12 months since the Constitutional Court decision date. For approving such bills, minimum two-thirds of the deputies' ballots are necessary namely 67-of-101 MPs. The parliamentary majority currently numbers only 53 MPs.
