19 octomber, 2018

Several thousands of people from different Gagauzia localities gathered in the main square of Comrat to welcome President of Turkey Recep Erdogan on Thursday. The rally was organized by the region's authorities.

Gagauzia Bashkan [governor] Irina Vlah announced that an educational center will be built in Comrat on funds, provided by the Turkish Government. The center will get the name of Turkish President.

Vlah expressed gratitude to the President of Turkey, due to whom, the autonomy citizens may benefit from quality medical services in the new block of the Comrat raion hospital.

"I want to thank President of Turkey, his family and his people for the provided assistance", the Bashkan said.

President of Moldova Igor Dodon maintains that there would be no Gagauzia without Turkey. "I have always said and I want to repeat that Gagauz people are the greatest statesmen. As a Moldovan, I am proud the republic has such citizens as Gagauz people, because both nations have one motherland - Moldova. Yes, we are of different nationality and we speak different languages, but we should respect each other and the right of each nation to study its language. This just makes us stronger", Dodon said.

He stressed that many Moldovans want to have a life as in Gagauzia, where new kindergartens, hospitals and other social institutions are being built.

"Turkey has all the time helped Gagauzia. But over the last three years this assistance considerably increased. This is due to President Erdogan, who just as I did, trusted Irina Vlah that she will make order in Gagauzia. And she did it!", Dodon said.

President Erdogan reminded about the difficult moments when Gagauzia was an unrecognized republic and its people were at the verge of fighting with the Moldovan people.

"Due to the wisdom of politicians, among which was the recently deceased Stepan Topal, the bloodshed was avoided. Moldova is a friendly country for Turkey. I stand for Moldova's integrity and for the development of Gagauzia, where our brothers are living. During all the 16 years when I was Prime Minister and President of Turkey, I dreamed to visit Gagauzia. Today I am here", he said.

The Turkish leader called on the autonomy people to treasure and protect their unity, language and culture, transmitting these to grandchildren and the next generations.

"Together, we have to work to leave a good heritage after us", Erdogan said, adding that a Turkish consulate will be opened in Comrat soon.
