MOLDOVA IS NOT A CAPTURED STATE, MAINTAINS PREMIER FILIP

16 november, 2018

Moldova cannot be considered as a captured state, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated on the local television on Thursday night. In his words, he just cannot see any signs of a captured state here, or captured state institutions, or anything of that sort.

“I constantly communicate with people, and I cannot find any proofs for such accusations. I admit, there is a certain concentration of power in Moldova. But if we [Democrats] hadn’t assumed such responsibility, then I just don’t know what would have been with the republic now”, said the Premier.

Commenting on the one-billion-dollar bank fraud, Pavel Filip said that he does not like, either, the snail’s pace of the investigation, “but on the other side, this is a very complicated process. And expectations of its progress and completion were overrated from the very beginning”.

“When I was appointed prime minister, my chief priority was to stabilize the Moldovan banking system. Now I can state with pride that we have managed to consolidate and strengthen the banking system, and to heighten the National Bank’s role. I can assert that there shall never be a repetition of such a bank theft”, stated the Prime Minister.

Pavel Filip said he had not read the second Kroll Report, “but from what is known to me, I can say as a citizen that [business tycoon and Mayor of Orhei] Ilan Shor, involved in that bank fraud, must be put to prison”.

“I haven’t read the Ilan Shor case. But I proceed from an assumption that there is a good will in the judiciary system, therefore sooner or later we will receive necessary explanations. We have even created a platform called “Committee for examining loud cases”, to which we invite everybody, including judges and prosecutors, to discuss our common problems”, said the Prime Minister.

Commenting on the non-validation of the recent Chisinau mayoral election results, the Premier said the court decision had surprised him.

“As a citizen, I should say the decision was not correct. But as a prime minister, I should say that the court must do its job. And, still, I cannot say the court judgment was a balanced one”, said Pavel Filip.

Concerning the ‘fiscal reform package’, the Premier offered an opinion that “this measure cannot be called radical. It is fully lawful. Also, it is not correct to connect the much-spoken capital amnesty with the bank fraud, for the amnesty has no relation whatsoever to the fraud”.
