MOLDOVAN PARLIAMENTARY CAMPAIGN TO START OFFICIALLY ON JANUARY 25, CEC DECIDES

On Wednesday, Moldova's Central Election Commission approved the Calendar Plan for the organization of the February 24, 2019 parliamentary elections. According to it, the election campaign will officially start on January 25 i.e. 30 days before the voting day.

According to the Plan, aspirants for parliamentary mandates from single-member constituencies may start raising citizens' signatures in their support after December 26. From that date and until January 24, the registration of candidates will be conducted. Political parties must be submitting to the CEC weekly financial statements on their current electoral activities, and the final statement - by February 22 at the latest.

Voters are invited to get registered by no later than January 9, and voter lists shall be finally checked and verified by February 23.

The Calendar Plan also reads that by not later than 18 hours after the closure of polling stations for voters, the station personnel must draw up closure protocols. And within maximum 48 hours after that all election-related documents are sent to the CEC.

Upon the completion of the vote-count and all related procedures, all the documents necessary for voting recognition shall be dispatched to the Constitutional Court by not later than March 4. The Court will have at its disposal maximum 5 days from that deadline for election recognition.

Today, the Central Election Commission has accredited some observers to work at the parliamentary campaign namely 69 representatives of the Promo-LEX Association of Moldova and 3 from the International Republican Institute (IRI) of the United States.
