NEARLY 25K OVERSEAS MOLDOVANS HAVE UNDERGONE PRELIMINARY REGISTRATION FOR PARTICIPATION IN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION

Almost 25 thousand Moldova citizens residing in foreign countries have undergone preliminary registration for participation in the February 24, 2019 parliamentary election. The registration was completed on January 9. According to the Central Election Commission, the online registration aroused the interest of 24,585 Moldova citizens residing in 1,725 populated areas in various countries – 7 times greater a number than was at the 2016 presidential election, when the preliminary registration was undergone by 3400 overseas Moldovans, whereas over 74 thousand citizens took part in the voting abroad.

This time, the largest numbers of Moldova citizens got online-registered in Italy (5308), Great Britain (3553), Romania (2991), Germany (2228) and France (2010). In North American countries (constituency #51) 2.7 thousand citizens of Moldova are going to vote namely 1.7 thousand people in the United States and slightly over a thousand in Canada.

In the countries included into electoral constituency #49 (CIS and Asia), only 997 citizens of Moldova have got registered – most of all in Russia (577) and in Israel (29), whereas in Ukraine – only 29 people and in United Arab Emirates – 79.
