ONLY THREE ORGANIZATIONS ARE LIKELY TO COME TO PARLIAMENT FROM NATIONAL CONSTITUENCY - BAROMETER

08 february, 2019

From the nation-wide electoral constituency, only 3 political forces are likely to win sits in the new Moldovan Parliament - the Party of Socialists (PSRM), the voting bloc ACUM and the ruling Democratic Party (DP), as per the findings of the Public Opinion Barometer poll, carried out recently by the CBS-AXA Center for Sociological Researches and Marketing experts and presented on Thursday.

Institute of Public Policies (IPP) Director Arcadie Barbarosie said at the presentation that if a parliamentary election were held next Sunday, the PSRM would receive the ballots of 20% interviewed citizens, ACUM - 11.7%, and DP - 9%.

"But one should take into account here that 34.5% of the interviewed respondents have not yet made up their mind about who to vote for, 11.1% said they would not go to the polls, and 7.9% refused to answer anything. And, still, we should expect a high voter turnout because 69% respondents are sure they will go to polling stations", said the expert.

In his words, among those people who have decided about their candidates, 42.8% will vote for Socialists, 25.1% for ACUM, and 19.3% for Democrats. In the latter case, the Ilan Shor Party is receiving 5.8% i.e. very close to the election threshold of 6%.

"Proceeding from this, it is possible to prognosticate two possible scenarios of the would-be deputy corps from the nation-wide electoral constituency (i.e. 50 mandates in the 101-member Parliament of Moldova). The 1st scenario: PSRM - 23, ACUM - 14, DP - 10, and Shor Party - 3 mandates. And the 2nd scenario: PSRM - 24, ACUM - 15, and DP - 11 mandates", the expert said, remarking that the poll was carried out yet in January, when some political parties had not been registered as candidates yet. As for the 51 single-member constituencies, 35.5% respondents would rather vote for party representatives, 20% -- for independent candidates, and 37% were uncertain.

Also, 43.1% respondents believe that the PSRM is precisely the party presenting their interests, 27.1% think so about ACUM, 15.9% -- DP, and 9.3% -- about Ilan Shor Party.

Arcadie Barbarosie said that an overwhelming majority of respondents, 72%, do not believe that the forthcoming parliamentary elections will be free, fair and correct, and only 16% believe in this.

The opinion poll was carried out on January 19-31 and covered 1224 people eligible to vote, residing in 90 various-type localities across the republic. The pollsters are saying the error should not be in the excess of В±3%.
