AMBASSADOR NEGUTA IS ALREADY IN CHISINAU

14 february, 2019

Moldova’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia, Andrei Neguta, has been recalled to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration for consultations. He arrived to Chisinau from Moscow on Wednesday night, and already on Thursday morning the diplomat was received by President Igor Dodon.

The head of state wrote on his Facebook page afterwards: “This morning, I held a meeting with the Republic of Moldova’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Mr. Andrei Neguta, due to his revocation to the home country by decision of the Moldovan foreign ministry for domestic consultations. We have discussed the new situation. As President of the republic, who, according to the Constitution, is responsible for the country’s external policy and has the exclusive prerogative to appoint and dismiss the Republic of Moldova’s diplomatic representatives, I stated with full responsibility that I fully trust in Ambassador Neguta who, I believe, fulfils his official duties in the national interests of the Republic of Moldova”.

The President called the Ministry’s decision “absolutely inexplicable and irrational because Mr. Neguta carries out his diplomatic mission according to set rules and requirements, and because he is one of Moldova’s most experienced experts in the field of foreign policy”.

“Proceeding from these considerations, even if the Government decides to dismiss Ambassador Neguta from Moscow, I shall not sign such a Presidential Decree”, stated President Dodon.
