ACUM CO-CHAIRPERSON CONNECTS DELETION OF FACEBOOK PAGES WITH DP ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

18 february, 2019

Co-Chairwoman of the ACUM election bloc Maia Sandu connected the deleting of Facebook pages with the illegal activity of the Democratic Party, demanding that the DP to be excluded from the election race.

She wrote in social networks that the CEC should initiate the procedure of canceling the registration of Democratic Party as election participant, as there are enough grounds for this already.

"Facebook officially confirmed that the activity of trolls and the pages, created by Democrats, directed to discrediting the opposition and praising the authorities through propaganda and lies, consumed around US$20 thousand, which were not declared in DP statements", Sandu said.

According to her, what is even worse is that some deleted pages belong to some governmental officials.

As Infotag has already reported, the Facebook removed 168 accounts, 28 Pages and eight Instagram accounts for engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior targeting people in Moldova. The network administration explained their actions by the appearance in the network of manipulative materials, connected with representatives of Moldovan authorities in the run-up to parliamentary elections. Also, the company press release mentions the sum of US$20 thousand, spent for advertisement on the above-mentioned pages.

The Moldovan Government came with a reaction to the Facebook press release, which says that a part of recently deleted fake accounts in the network is connected with the activity of public servants. "The Government does not check the activity in personal accounts in social networks of their employees", the Government says, adding that the apparatus strength is of over 200 thousand servants.
