PRESIDENT DODON CALLS HIS SUPPORTERS TO BE READY FOR PROTESTING

20 february, 2019

Moldova President Igor Dodon has called on his supporters to be ready for massive actions of protest and for resistance to the incumbent authorities.

Dodon stated during his live communication with citizens on the social networks on Tuesday night: "There are only 4 days left before the election. The incumbent authorities are ready for everything for the sake of remaining in power. They may well try and remove the President from his post, and may disqualify one of the main contestant parties. And we, too, must be ready for any scenario".

The President emphasized that the most important thing for him is to ensure that the election is recognized as valid.

"This means that everyone must have the possibility to freely make one's choice. I am aware that citizens are being bribed, brainwashed and intimidated... But don't be afraid! Take the money, but vote as your conscience is telling you. I promise you that after this election, power in the country will change, and nobody will be persecuted", said the President.

Dodon expressed surprise that the outgoing Parliament, whose mandate expired yet last November 30 and whose plenary powers in legislative activity field are standing next to the naught, has decided to hold one more plenary meeting tomorrow, on February 21.

"What for are they convoking the Parliament 3 days before elections? I have no idea what they are scheming. I only want to say that they will no more be able to suspend the President, as they were doing last 2 years. I will call citizens out into streets. Before, too, many people were urging me to begin protesting. But I did not want destabilization. And I don't want it now, either. But if the authorities provoke us, we shall respond!" stated Igor Dodon.
