ACUM DISAPPOINTED WITH SOCIALISTS’ POSITION, DEMANDS URGENT PLENARY MEETING

10 april, 2019

The ACUM bloc leaders have expressed their disappointment with the stance of the Party of Socialists on the coalition forming negotiations, and have demanded to urgently convoke a parliament meeting. On Tuesday, Andrei Nastase and Maya Sandu organized a news conference to comment on the pre-conditions put forth by the Socialists for starting negotiations on governing coalition forming.

ACUM Co-Chairperson Andrei Nastase, the DA Platform leader, stated: “The Party of Socialists gave preference to the agenda of the Democratic Party and its leader Vlad Plahotniuc. The worst thing about the agenda is that it presupposes Moldova’s remaining a captured state. That’s why we are demanding to urgently resume the holding of the new Parliament’s first plenary meeting that was arbitrarily suspended [on March 12] for an unspecified time. We believe it is absolutely necessary that all the parliamentary parties must openly state their action plans”.

In his words, during the Moldovan President’s recent meeting with ACUM representatives, Igor Dodon stated that the Socialists were ready to abolish the mixed election system “because it gives advantages to the Democratic Party and promotes falsifications and stealing of votes”.

“May be, one fine day those guys in the PSRM office will screw up their courage and will at last understand that they cannot be eternally remaining Plahotniuc’s hostages because by playing such role they are preserving Moldova in the captivity of this bandit Plahotniuc”, believes Andrei Nastase.

The other ACUM Co-Chairperson, Party of Action and Solidarity leader Maya Sandu has perceived the PSRM’s pre-conditions as the Socialists’ refusal to recognize Moldova as “a state captured by this oligarch” and to take part in liberating the country.

“It looks as if the much-advertized judiciary reform, struggle against corruption, de-oligarchization of the Moldovan State and struggle against the mafia clan of Vlad Plahotniuc’s are not priorities for the Socialists. They are refusing to be sincere with their own voters, when they promise them serious social projects fully realizing that as long as the country is ruled by a gang of thieves, citizens just cannot live well. The Socialists’ promises are unrealizable in the current conditions when Moldova is remaining devoid of external financing in the form of grants and cheap credits necessary for realization of these very social projects”, stated Maya Sandu.

She emphasized that the Socialists’ statement about their preparedness to a snap election by using the current mixed election system is but an extra evidence of their collaboration with the Democratic Party’s regime.

“We are not actually interested in the Socialists’ proposals, for de-oligarchization of the state is what really matters for us. But they are not ready for this because they collaborate with Plahotniuc”, stated Maya Sandu.
