MOLDOVAN PRESIDENT, US AMBASSADOR DISCUSS DOMESTIC POLICY

President of Moldova Igor Dodon met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan on Thursday and discussed the current state of things in the country after elections. Dodon wrote about this meeting on his Facebook page.

“At the initiative of the American side, I had a working meeting with US Ambassador to Moldova Dereck Hogan. We discussed and shared the opinions about the most recent trends in the country’s internal policy almost 2 months after the parliamentary elections”, the Moldovan president wrote.

According to him, at the meeting they also discussed a wide range of issues from the bilateral relation agenda and agreed on the need of further strengthening of cooperation.

“As for the foreign policy, I pointed at the importance of continuing the course towards the balanced relations with partners in the East and the West on the basis of permanent neutrality and given the national interests of Moldova”, Dodon stressed.

According to the presidential press service, over 50 days that have passed since the elections, Igor Dodon had five meetings with the US Ambassador. Each time, he assured the diplomat of adherence to a balanced external policy, development of Moldova’s relations both with the East and the West.

After parliamentary elections, Dereck Hogan called to Moldovan politicians to form a ruling coalition on the basis of citizens’ will to preserve the country’s European course of development. This statement was criticized from by official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
