DEMOCRATS DECIDE TO SACRIFICE THEIR MARCH SALARIES FOR CHARITY

18 april, 2019

The Members of the Moldovan Parliament representing the Democratic Party have decided to sacrifice their March salaries for charitable purposes, the DP Faction Chairman, incumbent Prime Minister of Moldova Pavel Filip wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, each DP lawmaker will decide herself or himself which social problem or sphere to choose for the donation. The deputies decided to use their salaries in such a way because in March the Parliament was “practically non-functional”.

“We believe this money should not belong to any deputy, no matter which faction. We still hope for a soonest de-blocking of the current situation so as to begin working for the good of the people who have delegated us to the Parliament”, wrote Pavel Filip.

He called on all parliamentary factions to demonstrate their political maturity and focus on the realization of social priorities.

Not long ago, DA Platform leader Andrei Nastase stated that for March the deputies received as salary only about 3 thousand lei each because the Constitutional Court had approved their parliamentary mandates only on March 9, and the first plenary meeting was held only on March 21. So, the deputies were paid only for the last 10 days of March.

It is noteworthy that those deputies who were members of the previous Parliament, too, have received their monthly salaries in full – 10-15 thousand lei, though their plenary powers as deputies expired yet last November 30, and though the previous forum held its final plenary meeting on December 14.
