ROMANIA AND MOLDOVA ARE BATTLEFIELDS OF PRO-EUROPEAN AND ANTI-EUROPEAN FORCES – CANDIDATE PONTA

03 may, 2019

Like the Republic of Moldova, Romania has also become a battlefield of pro-European and anti-European forces, maintains the Pro-Romania Party Chairman, ex-Prime Minister of Romania Victor Ponta.

He said at the news conference in Chisinau on Thursday that in Romania, there is a multitude of opponents to European ideas “because the European Union does not accept the ruining of democratic traditions, thefts and the like”.

“Unfortunately, we have a political force that is holding important-most state posts – a force known for its anti-European positions [the governing Social Democratic Party]. But both Moldova and Romania should understand that their future is linked with Europe. And if only they begin straying from the European Union, life will only be deteriorating, the population exodus will continue, and the countries will be ruled by corrupt politicians”, said Victor Ponta.

Commenting on the ongoing negotiations on forming a new Government of Moldova, Ponta said that this will be either a pro-European or pro-Russia government.

“The first scenario will play in Moldova’s favor, and the second one will not. So, people in Moldova should make a choice: either the country moves forward towards Europe or makes a step back towards Russia”, said the ex-Premier of Romania.
