27 may, 2019

In Moldova, over 37.8 thousand citizens of Romania attended the last Sunday’s elections to the European Parliament, as per the data made public by the Central Electoral Bureau of Romania on Monday morning.

According to the Bureau, the largest number of Romania citizens, 15.8 thousand, voted in Chisinau. And though as many as 12 polling stations were opened in the Moldovan capital (out of the total number of 36 in the whole republic), at some of them there were long queues, but the voting went on quietly and without violations.

According to preliminary data, the National Liberal Party (PNL) polled 27.86%, the Social Democratic Party – 24.84%, the Coalition 2020 – 18.11%, the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania – 6.46%.

The Pro-Romania party, on whose slate Moldova’s former premier Iurie Leanca was standing for the European Parliament, has received 6.69%, which result gives it only 2 seats in the European legislature. So, Leanca’s chances are dubious because he is standing on the 4th position on the party slate.

According to preliminary data, the European People's Party (EPP) should receive 178 seats in the 751-member European Parliament, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) – 152, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE&R) – 108.
