CHISINAU MUNICIPAL COUNCIL DISCHARGES ACTING MAYOR AND DEPUTY MAYOR

04 july, 2019

On Thursday, the Chisinau Municipal Council [city legislature] voted resolutely for dismissing Acting Mayor Ruslan Codreanu and Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu.

That decision was supported by 36 out of the 41 Councilors present, including unanimously – by the Liberal and Socialist factions. LP faction leader Ion Ciobanu stated: “I am ready to vote together even with the Socialists for the sake of saving the capital from the dreadful governance of this city usurper”.

The motive for firing Codreanu and Grozavu was a long list of violations, which the governing team permitted to themselves: illicit construction (with selling out public lands into private ownership for peanuts), appointment of ‘necessary people’ to sensitive money-giving posts, complete neglect of crying municipal problems and so forth.

According to the municipal Rules of Procedure, until the election of a new Mayor, and in the absence of Deputy Mayors (Grozavu was only one), mayoral duties shall be performed by Municipal Council Secretary Adrian Talmaci.
