PRESIDENT SAYS THAT NEW PSRM-ACUM AGREEMENT MAY BE SIGNED ALREADY NEXT WEEK

14 august, 2019

President Igor Dodon said at a briefing after the Wednesday’s sitting of the Supreme Security Council that it would be logic to sign the new agreement between the Party of Socialists and the ACUM bloc already next week.

He said that the agenda of future actions has many times been discussed in recent days (at least six times), including the reform of judiciary and the prosecution system, the tax policy, the pension indexation and other important issues.

“I believe we are at the finish line towards signing of an agreement between the PSRM and the ACUM, which will most likely be enforced by the President as well in sign of support to the process of reforms”, Dodon said.

He stressed that the discussed agenda consists of several blocks.

“These are the domestic policy and reforms, including in judiciary. I have to say that we found common ground in 90% of issues in this direction. We will elaborate a common concept of reform to publish it and both sides have political will”, the head of state said.

According to the president, the second important element of discussions is the activity in the Parliament: the prevention of political tourism, including the possibility of coalition with MPs from other factions.

“The third point is the local elections on October 20 – an important goal for both political formations. Here, clear conditions must be established, including a ‘non-aggression pact’ between the PSRM and ACUM. Also, the external policy was discussed – the fulfillment of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, the rehabilitation of relations with strategic partners”, Dodon said.

According to him, if the discussions on the reform agenda, first of all in judiciary, are completed these days, it would be correct and logic to conclude the agreement next week.
